Life needs to be taken seriously. What we do things affects things near and far. Yet it does not need to be heavy. Heaviness is a result of taking ourselves too seriously- of amplifying things out of proportion. We tell ourselves we are taking life seriously, because we dealing with such important things. And that may be, but when get attached to how important what we are doing is- it gets heavy. There is no lightness or joy in our action. It typically repels other people. We say they just do not understand how important this is. But actually our heaviness was just a drag to be around.
At times our energy might become intense, but that too is
different than heaviness. If we yell at child to prevent them from running in the street, it may be intense. It has a lot of feeling packed in it. But the situation required it. The energy is clean and honest- not heavy and contrived.
So the trick is to take life seriously, but not to let our actions and energy become heavy. So there can be a joy and natural flow in our actions. If our energy becomes heavy, it means we are attaching to something and making it larger than life. So then we can breathe into it and let things to flow again.
So ironically if we allow our energy to become heavy, we are less likely to accomplish the thing that is so important.
Life is too serious to take seriously.
