I watched a story on ABC's This Week Sunday morning where George Clooney is working with commercial satellites to expose human rights abuses in Sudan (link). It is called the Satellite Sentinel Project (link). He has found his true calling (we just thought it was acting). Also, you may have heard that Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are traveling around the world and urging billionaires to contribute half of their wealth to change the world. Many are doing it.
Well, few of us have the wealth, resources, and influence as those people- but our offering is no less profound or important. Clooney, Gates, and Buffet are doing what makes sense for them to do. There is something that makes sense for you to do. You have unique gifts that you are blessed with. You have skills that you have developed. You have
things that you are passionate about. In short, you have a calling, too.
Take your pick: world economy, environment, energy, human rights, health care, education, technology, poverty, hunger, disease, obesity, drug abuse, over-population, loss of community, war and its effects. The world's problems don't care about your political affiliation, religion, socioeconomic status or age. You (right now) have something that the world desperately needs. Why keep it to yourself? It doesn't have to be perfect or develop more- it is just right the way it is. And you will gain such a sense of purpose as you offer it.
If all of us pick one thing- one project or one cause, and throw ourselves into it, we would have all the resources that we need. Many of you have and that is huge. If so, continue and encourage others.
