Your Natural Gift: Offering the Essence of Your Heart (2013)
Many Native American cultures refer to someone's gift to their people as their medicine. In his first book, Michael Hoffman defines the term natural gift as the natural expression that spontaneously unfolds when you open your heart. This practical book walks readers through the process of identifying, unlocking, awakening, and offering their natural gift through a series of questions and exercises based on over 25 years as a therapist and teacher. Published in 2013.
Excerpt from Your Natural Gift:
I define your natural gift as the natural expression that spontaneously unfolds when you open your heart. You may offer it with the intention of benefiting someone, or you may just open your heart to be with yourself. Either way, your natural gift will touch everything it come in contact with, and it extends farther than you might expect. Offering your natural gift ultimately results in an interaction between your heart and the things near and far that it comes in contact with. You cannot offer your natural gift without opening your heart. opening your heart requires you to risk and expose. You have to be vulnerable. This perhaps is the most difficult part of your natural gift. This cannot be accomplished intellectually. Cognitive behavioral therapy is effective at the intellectual level, but add some heart to it and it magically inspires and transforms. It creates hope. The dynamic energy of your natural gift is the pure energy that flows form your open heart. It is the dynamic energy of your gift that touched people's hearts. It is the part of you gift that heals and changes lives. This dynamic energy has to be translated from one heart to another. Without the heart energy of your natural gift, it is just sterile words an actions. Having heart is what differentiates an artist from a technician. A technician has flawless technique. An artist makes you cry. (Hoffman, 2013, pp, 10-11)
Natural Way of Being: Walking with Your Heart Open and Collaborating with Life (2018)
My upcoming book encourages you to find your natural way of being that allows you to walk with your heart open and as part of a whole. It applies the natural way of being to relationship, community, and creating the life you would have for yourself. It guides you to liberate yourself from the fear, beliefs, and loss that inhibit the natural way of being. Coming in the spring of 2018.
Excerpt from Natural Way of Being:
You have to be an active participant through the entire process. Even when you are allowing things to unfold, you are engaged in the process. Surrender and receptivity are not passive. You are energetically connected and consciously surrendering control so Life can present a doorway to you. The doorway provides form to your intention. The receptive or feminine element gives birth to form and allows your intention to actualize itself. An intention is pure possibility. It is potentiality. In itself, it is static and inert. If there is no action to actualize it, nothing happens. Many a great idea has met this fate- no doubt some of yours. The notion that the energy of possibility and intention open doorways is the cornerstone of natural creation. But if you do not see the doorway and step through it, what good is it? The dance of unfoldment is an interactive process between you and life as you actualize the things you would have for yourself. This natural dance goes back and forth between you and Life. You offer your intention, Life presents doorways, you take action, and Life unfolds things. It is a dance of unfoldment because it involves offering you intention and then recognizing Life’s response in the form of doorways. Upon seeing the doorways, you take action, and then notice the things that Life unfolds. Like all the aspects of natural intention, the dance of unfoldment requires you to trust your partner- Life. While it may seem otherwise, Life will never let you down. It is only you that can break the sacred partnership and the dance of unfoldment. Lastly, dancing and life are meant to be enjoyed, so remember to enjoy the dance! (Hoffman, 2018)
