Stop Pushing Energy Out

Video Summary:

For this week's video blog, I included a clip from a Zoom Q&A session on Chapter 4 of my book, Natural Way of Being, held on May 4. It begins with Tasia asking a question:

Tasia: I was hoping you could give us a little more advice on strategies for allowing energy in beyond just asking questions.

Michael (summary of my answer): Well, the way this was taught to me by my teacher is that the first step was to stop pushing your energy out. In our culture, we're conditioned to just start chiming in and diving right into the experience we're in. What also happens when we don't allow energy in is that we tend to be more reactionary. Allowing energy in allows us to respond, and not react.

There's a different sensory feeling of pushing energy out than allowing energy in. And you really want to be aware of the difference because you want to know which of the two you're in.

For example, I might think, "I sure wish this person would stop talking because I've got an awesome point I want to make." Then I can realize I'm pushing my energy out.

I can just stop and listen, trusting that my brilliant comment will be there when she's done talking. I've just done an intervention on myself. I stopped pushing my energy out, which is the first step.
