Feel Close In Your Relationship

An essential question for anyone considering psychotherapy to resolve emotional pain, anxiety, depression, or relationship angst...

What’s the biggest difference between…

... alleviating your immediate emotional pain, anxiety, or relationship angst ASAP with an emergency therapy session, talk with friends, or a new significant other;

and...

... creating lasting freedom from the core emotional wounds and patterns that largely created the current pain, anxiety, or relationship stress in the first place.

If you guessed...

You'll just do the number of sessions your insurance will pay for with the first counselor or therapist that can get you in. Let's get this done.

You’d be wrong.

If you guessed...

You probably don't need therapy. You listen to podcasts and read books. Besides, you can talk to your friends about what's going on with you.

You’d still be wrong.

And if you guessed...

OK, perhaps you'll could do a session or two to work through this rough time. You've just gotten some bad breaks. You'll be fine.

You’d still be oh-so-terribly wrong.

Cause here’s the deal...

Effective psychotherapy creates lasting personal freedom by healing the core emotional wounds that create your pain.

Most counselors and therapists do a good job of guiding their clients through crises, divorces, relationship break-ups, and symptoms of depression and anxiety because that's what they do over and over with their clients.

Eventually, the immediate crisis subsides. You have a new significant other now. You're not depressed anymore. Your anxiety is manageable again. You're no longer in acute emotional pain. Phew! Sure glad that's over. That really sucked.

You thank your therapist for getting you through it and call it good. This therapy thing really worked!

This moment, when your acute emotional symptoms subside, is when an important opportunity presents itself.

There's an opportunity to work with a skilled, experienced psychotherapist to resolve the core wounds that are largely responsible for the symptoms that just subsided. Resolving the core problem prevents the symptoms from reappearing.

Delving deeper to address the core wounds can be challenging when you're already feeling better. You may tell yourself you've learned your lesson and will not go there again.

But if the core wound is still in there, it will continue to affect your life in ways you may not be aware of.

It takes a great deal of courage to delve deeper. It requires a willingness to invest in yourself. It's investing in your ability to love and be loved and to enjoy your life to its fullest.

It requires a highly skilled and experienced psychotherapist to guide you to heal your core emotional wounds.

A skilled psychotherapist saves you time. They intuitively guide you to become aware of your core emotional issues. Becoming conscious of these wounds, patterns, fears, and limiting beliefs allows you to consciously choose a new way of being.

An experienced therapist can also facilitate the healing of these core wounds. They create space for you to experience, feel, and release any trauma and energy that is trapped in your body.

Facilitating this type of therapy is an art. It's based on experience and requires an intuitive feel to guide the process. It's the result of putting in those 10,000 hours that Malcolm Gladwell wrote about.

A psychotherapist must do their own work to guide you through your healing process effectively. If they have not healed their core emotional wounds, they will lack the clarity to guide you through yours. They inevitably project their unresolved issues onto you.

Yet many people settle for a psychotherapist who is not skilled enough to guide them through their healing journey. The ineffective therapist may accept the client's insurance. Sometimes the client may not want to hurt the therapist's feelings.

It's odd that we do not value this form of healing in our culture to the same extent as other forms of healing. If we were getting surgery, we would certainly want the best surgeon we could find.

Perhaps it's because this type of work and its outcomes are less visible and measurable than medical treatments and surgeries.

Yet, unresolved core emotional issues sabotage marriages and relationships, lead to various forms of addiction, and may even manifest as physical disease.

But perhaps the most tragic thing is that they subtly prevent you from fully enjoying your life without you even realizing it.

Effective psychotherapy is personalized to fit your emotional history and the way of life you choose for yourself.

Many forms of traditional psychotherapy seek to help you obtain psychological health. But who determines what it is to be psychologically healthy? And perhaps something that is healthy for one personality and lifestyle may not be healthy for another.

Much of psychotherapy has become formulaic. The therapist diagnoses a disorder and then begins the indicated treatment for that disorder. Therapists are trained when they hear this, they say that. It has all become rather intellectual and clinical.

But human beings are complex. They don't fit into neat little boxes that are healed by set interventions. They have varying personalities and unique histories. The lifestyle humans choose for themselves further complicates their psychological healing.

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy begins by listening. Michael Hoffman listens to the client's unique journey and the life they want for themselves. We work together to create an intuitive approach that is effective for your specific situation.

So rather than you fitting into the therapy, the therapy is fitting you. You choose your life and what you want and we navigate a personal program that is effective for you. I offer my experience and expertise to ensure the program will be effective.

So, it's a program that you helped design. It makes sense to you. You are into it and begin to build momentum and hope. You are invested in your journey of healing, which is perfect for you.

Finding a therapist who is effective for you and your way of life requires insisting on a therapist whom you can trust to help you see the truth.

Effective psychotherapy requires trust. You need to trust that your therapist has the expertise and experience to guide you in healing your core emotional issues and creating the things you want to experience in your life.  Someone with whom you feel comfortable.

Once you trust that your therapist has your best interests at heart, you can allow them to point out things about yourself that are difficult to look at and accept. This is where the growth lies: having someone who can point out things that you're not able to see.

This requires a great deal of skill and experience on the part of the therapist. It is essential to find a therapist who is sharp and skilled enough to hold your feet to the fire when you attempt to avoid things you need to work on. (And yes, we all do this- it's human nature.)

If you have insurance benefits, I highly recommend that you check your coverage online or by phone to find out what your insurance will pay for and if there is a skilled therapist available.

One current challenge is that many of the most experienced and skilled therapists who accept insurance are not taking new clients. An inexperienced therapist just out of school may not have the capacity to guide you through your core emotional issues.

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy has immediate openings with Michael Hoffman, LCSW, a highly skilled and experienced therapist.

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy does not bill insurance directly, but we do provide a superbill for you to present to them. Our fees are priced to make out-of-pocket payments affordable.

Isn't it time you invest in yourself to unlock the life you truly want for yourself?

4 Pillars of Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy

The four pillars of Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy provide a clear approach to integrating personal freedom, life purpose, and loving relationships into all the various aspects of your life.

First Pillar: Choice

The basis of Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy is choosing something you want to create or experience. This is fundamentally different than traditional psychotherapy which is based on helping people find psychological health.

Of course, psychological health and natural laws of the human experience are accessed in Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy. However, this form of psychological health is based upon you and your choice and intention for what you want to experience.

Once you clarify your values, choices, and intentions, then we can find health and balance in your specific life. This becomes your personal journey that is perfect for you. I will guide you to find a healthy and balanced version of your personal journey.

Second Pillar: Investment in Yourself

Once you choose something you want to experience in life, it quickly becomes evident that there may be significant barriers to creating it. This is typically due to conditioning that gets in the way of what you want to create.

This cultural conditioning was likely introduced to you by your family, teachers, friends, television, and the internet. Since you have been exposed to it for most of your life, it constructs your reality and directly informs what you believe is possible.

Accordingly, deconstructing this conditioning requires determination. You have to swim upstream from what feels natural and be willing to leave your comfort zone. Your mind may tell you that what you want to create is simply not possible.

This is where determination comes in. You have to want it. You have to be willing to risk trying things not embraced by your conditioning. You may fail or become discouraged. You have to brush yourself off and go after it again. You are determined.

Third Pillar: Trust

Not much of the construction and excavation described in the previous section can happen until you establish trust. It requires that you build trust with two people- your therapist and yourself.

You need to trust that your therapist has the expertise and experience to guide you to create the things you want to experience in your life.

You also have to trust that if you let go of your defense mechanisms and old ways of staying safe, your therapist will be there for you. If you fall apart, your therapist will be there to put you back together. Then you can truly let go.

Trusting yourself is the internal version of this. It is learning to trust your survivability. It's trusting that whatever life throws at you, you'll be able to survive it and endure it. And eventually, you'll learn to trust that you'll be able to thrive with it.

Once you trust yourself, you can try new things. You are free. You are free to venture into the unknown. And that's where you typically find the things that you truly want for yourself.

Fourth Pillar: Personal Freedom

Freedom is the ultimate litmus test. If what you are and unlocking and unfolding creates freedom, you're likely on the right track. It's personal in that it creates the freedom to be you.

Psychotherapy should create freedom. If it's not, something is not right, something's off. It may be time to try a different approach, a different therapist, or a different form of therapy.

Perhaps it's time to try Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy. If you think that may be the case, I'd love to talk about it with you in a free consultation.

The Good News Is...

Experiencing the freedom to fully enjoy loving relationships, life purpose, and a sense of well-being is totally possible.

If you’ve made it this far, you ALREADY know that effective psychotherapy creates lasting personal freedom by healing the core emotional wounds that create your emotional pain, anxiety, depression, and relationship stress.

But maybe you didn’t know that, by liberating yourself from your core emotional wound and behavioral patterns with Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy, you’ll also have the power to:

  • Experience the personal freedom to consciously choose how you interact with all the aspects of your life.
  • Enjoy a deep connection and intimacy with your significant other and all the relationships in your life.
  • Fully accept your humanness and develop compassion and acceptance of your unique qualities and the choices that you make and have made in your life.

  • Feel the joy, vitality, and well-being of being fully alive throughout your life.

YES, these outcomes are totally within reach for you (whether you’re starting from scratch or hitting reset for the 10th time)...

... but they DO depend on taking a clear-cut, step-by-step approach.

One that removes the obstacles to having personal freedom, life purpose, and loving relationships in your life.

And if you’re still with me, then I couldn’t be more excited to introduce you to my battle-tested Psychotherapy.

But first...

MEET YOUR PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Michael Hoffman, LCSW

I've been providing psychotherapy for clients to enjoy freedom, love, and purpose for 30 years.

When I'm not playing the drums, exploring the Pacific Northwest, or interpreting dreams, I'm facilitating therapy sessions and retreats for people to awaken freedom, enjoyment, and purpose in their lives.

I do this by consciously guiding and supporting one person at a time to directly integrate their truth and well-being to their relationships, work, and everyday life.

I developed this form of psychotherapy to help clients directly experience personal freedom, life purpose, and well-being, and fully integrate them into their lives.

Why not bring the freedom, love, and enjoyment you've always wanted into your relationships, family, and life?

Word on the Street

"I left my job working with a hypnotherapy group to start my own practice. A little more than a month later my wife asked me for a divorce and my world was upended. I was completely unprepared for this.

That is when I called Michael Hoffman. My wife and I did several sessions with him, and though it did not change the outcome, it helped me to see the huge roll that I played in this disaster.

More importantly, it caused me to realize that I needed help, and that is when I began to personally work with Michael on a regular basis. He helped me to fully understand the relationship with my ex and to make necessary amends to her and within myself.

The real core of the work I did with Michael is seeing how I have always been looking outward to define myself. What I have found in working with him is that I already had the resources within me to actually create the changes I wanted to make. For me, this has been the pivotal change.

I have to say, Michael held my feet to the fire and that is what I really needed. He helped me get in touch with trusting my heart and moving from that place."

NATURAL WAY OF BEING PSYCHOTHERAPY

with MICHAEL HOFFMAN

Personalized psychotherapy sessions to create personal freedom, life purpose, and loving relationships in your life.

What do you want to create in your life?

I’ve invested the last 30 years working in the trenches with people to develop an approach to psychotherapy that allows you to create a complete transition in your life. It's designed for...

  • People who are 'over it' and ready to change an aspect of their life, but have not been able to find an effective-enough approach to pull it off.
  • People who continue to struggle to bring the well-being and connection into their relationships- ESPECIALLY their significant-other relationship. There is nothing more painful than experiencing loneliness in a relationship.
  • People who are not finding a deep, meaningful significant-other relationship, but are rather dating emotionally unavailable people or people who want to relate on a superficial level.
  • People who have not been able to offer a sense of purpose in a meaningful way that sustains a financial livelihood. And...
  • People who have tried a variety of psychological, spiritual, and/or personal growth approaches only to find themselves reexperiencing their old patterns in a frustrating, anxiety-ridden, Groundhog Day-esque cycle...

The Result Is...

Easy-to-follow Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy Sessions that give you a crystal clear, *can’t fail* roadmap for experiencing personal freedom, a sense of well-being, and loving relationships.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GAIN MASTERY WITH:

Mastery #1: Understand What's Important to You Now

So here's the thing. What's important to you changes as you mature. Therefore, updating this by determining what's important to you in your life now is essential. This creates a solid foundation for your psychotherapy journey.

Here are the broad strokes of the first area of mastery:

  • Notice What You Value. What do you seem to prioritize in your life? What do you show up for? What are you saying to yourself that you prioritize yet never find the time for? Don't get into self-judgement. You're just noticing and learning about what your behavior suggests that you seem to value.
  • Notice What You Are Drawn to. Also, notice what you are not drawn to. Here you're observing how you feel about the things in your life. What things in your life do you look forward to? What dreams and plans do you get excited about? And what are you bored with? What do you dread?
  • Discover Your Unique Life Path. Effective psychotherapy needs to be intuitively tailored to your unique spiritual and human signature. We work together with self-inquiry and intuitive listening to disclose the ideal psychotherapy approach for your personal path.
  • Determine What’s Most Important to You. Effective and lasting change begins by understanding what you truly value. This changes as your life moves through different phases. It provides an orientation for your life and allows you to align your life with what matters most to you.

Mastery #2: Consciously Choose the Life You Want for Yourself

Here is where things get fun - real fun :)

You’ve embraced your spiritual path and removed the obstacles, so now you can take things to a whole new level by partnering with life by offering a clear intention to activate your new life.

Here’s what you’ll soon be activating:

  • Consider the things you'd like to have in your life. Is it a relationship, a community of supportive friends? Do you want a new livelihood, business, or project? Do you want to create art or play a musical instrument? What are the internal aspects of yourself you want to awaken?
  • Create a Clear Intention. When you offer your intention, it initiates and activates a new way of being. We work together to identify some things you would like to awaken in your life. We work with things and boil them down to create a clear intention for your life.
  • Offer your Intention. Offering your intention is the moment of commitment to awakening the new element in your life. Offering your intention in a ceremony helps you envision your intention as a rite of passage to a new life that includes the new element you are awakening.
  • Recognize the Doorways that Open. When you offer an intention, Life presents doorways for you to actualize that intention. Doorways include relationships, opportunities, and connections. Our sessions help you recognize the doorways that open and find the courage to step into them.

Mastery #3: Become Aware of your Core Emotional Wounds, Limiting Beliefs, Fears, and Behavioral Patterns

Awesome!

You’ve set your foundation! You’re on a roll! This third area of mastery is perhaps the most challenging and most powerful one of the bunch. The personal freedom and empowerment it creates are easily worth the price of the sessions.

It requires rigorous honesty (with yourself), which starts with the willingness to look at your life exactly as it is. Once you see yourself clearly and objectively, the rest of your transition is inevitable.

I will start the ball rolling by asking some questions and gently pointing some things out. You will participate in the investigation looking at the things that have been holding you back. Challenging yes, but you can do this. We’re in it together!

Here are some of the things we will look at:

  • Become Aware of Your Core Emotional Issues. There may be a psychological journey that leads down to these core issues. Perhaps you have an idea of what they are from past work. What you get triggered or activated with at work or in your relationships may point the way to your core issues.
  • Become Conscious of Your Limiting Beliefs. We pick up core beliefs about ourselves and the world in childhood. They are reinforced and embellished as adults.  They often limit us without us even realizing it. We'll explore the beliefs or stories you tell yourself that may be obstructing you.
  • Disempower your Fear. Fear naturally arises as you get close to what you want most. Since fear is future-based, you can break each fear down to an if/then statement about what you believe will happen. This format clarifies how fear limits your life and puts it into terms that are manageable.
  • Become Aware of Your Behavioral Patterns. These repetitive patterns rob you of your ability to choose what you want in your life because you do them over and over without realizing it. Becoming conscious of them provides the opportunity to choose something different.

Mastery #4: Create a Personal Program

By this point, you have built a huge amount of self-awareness and intention. But it is also essential to create a personal program that will allow to you integrate your new spiritual element into your everyday life.

Many succumb to their resistance and stop here. This is where all the potentiality becomes real. It is where your spiritual nature takes form in your actual life.

While it's natural to feel uneasy being in new territory, let this be the grand adventure that it is. This is what you have been preparing for...

  • Create your Personal Program. Together, we will design a personalized program that provides a new orientation for your life. This program will keep you attuned to your heart, intuition, and internal resources. It will replace the externally based orientation you were conditioned to rely upon.
  • Establish a Personal Practice. A spiritual practice allows you to experience the sensation and feeling of your spiritual nature on a regular basis to provide orientation for your life. Spiritual practices include things you naturally enjoy such as yoga, meditation, journaling, music, and walking in nature.
  • Practice Noticing and Reconnecting. This allows you to stay aligned with your new element as you awaken it. Noticing is objectively observing when you are aligned with your spiritual nature, and when you are not. Reconnecting detaches you from what is distracting you and realigns you with your spiritual nature.
  • Feel your way through it. Notice what works and what doesn't. Your best guide is to notice whether the things you try lead you to feel close or distant. Do they create connection or separation? And adjust. Repeat those that create connection and discard those that create separation.

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy Sessions & Personal Programs

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy sessions provide a foundation to enjoy loving relationships, personal freedom, and quality of life. They walk you through a complete transition to a new way of being.

Natural Way of Being Psychotherapy Personal Programs are ongoing weekly or every-other-week psychotherapy sessions and prescribed practices. As part of your program, you receive a scheduled session time.

You can also combine Psychotherapy Sessions with Weekly Sharing Circles. Combining individual and group work (such as individual sessions every other week and a Weekly Sharing Circle) is powerful and synergistic.

Committing to a personal program of consistent psychotherapy sessions for a period of time provides the most effective and efficient way to integrate loving relationships, freedom, and quality of life.

Only problem is, without a clear strategy that ties them all together, you’ve experienced nothing but discouraging “is all this stuff really working?” results, followed by crippling overwhelm around what to do next.

6. You want something that works: You have heard about or even tried psychotherapy or counseling before. You paid your money, invested the effort (and worst of all, got hopeful), only to land back in the same lonely and unfulfilling place.

You want an approach that actually results in all this intimacy, purpose, fulfillment, and vulnerability you hear so much about.

7. You can envision all the things you have always wanted that will open up once you heal the emotional wounds that have been getting in your way. You can just feel the closeness in your relationship, the life purpose in your work, and the pure enjoyment and richness of everyday life. You’ve always known it was possible.
