Conception and Birth

Jan 16, 2023

Video Summary:

I just gave a talk on the Aboriginal Dreamtime, shamanic ceremony, and the spring equinox. It was a free introduction on Zoom for the Spring Equinox retreat that I'm going to facilitate in the Ashland, Oregon area, March 23rd through the 26th here in a couple of months.

I'm really excited about it, and the people who participated were excited about it which made it even better. And more importantly, they asked some really cool questions. And it's always when people ask questions, and I go inside to find clear answers that seem to bear the best fruit.

One of the themes that arose begins with an understanding of the aboriginal Dreamtime which is going to be our theme this spring. When the aboriginal folks in Australia want to create something in their life, they don't immediately start building it in their lives.

Rather, they first go into the Dreamtime, meaning they do ceremony and dance it awake. The Dreamtime is a spiritual dimension that they enter via ceremony and dreams. The thing they wish to create might be a new aspect of themselves, getting married, going on a hunt, or finding a place to live.

This really mirrors the space of the east on the Medicine Wheel in my shamanic tradition. The east, which is the spring equinox, is the time that we awaken things. Here, the thing we are creating often does not have any form yet. It accumulates form as we move around the Medicine Wheel.

Ceremonially offering an intention for the thing we are creating in the east of the Medicine Wheel and the spring equinox is very similar to the aboriginal people dancing it awake in the Dreamtime. It doesn't exist yet in this 3D dimension, but we are energetically igniting it in the Dreamtime.

I used the metaphor of the thing we are creating being conceived. When someone gets pregnant, there's a conception and a time of gestation where it's developing and accumulating form in the womb. And then it's born into the world of form nine months later. The time between conception and birth is really sacred.

The main intention of the spring equinox and doing ceremony is to conceive the thing you wish to create in your life. It may be a part of yourself, a new house, a relationship, or new career. Maybe you want to deepen your intuition.

The length of time between conception and birth into your life can vary. It may be born very quickly, or it might take form three or six months later. During this time after conception and during pregnancy it's really important to not give up on it because, without form, we tend to think that nothing is happening.

I have people that call me and say, “Mike, the ceremony didn't work.” I respond by telling them to give it time. It just hasn’t taken form yet. You haven't given birth to it in your life yet. So it’s really important to not give up on it.

You can also go back into the Dreamtime again to remember the energy you experienced in the ceremony. I call it the energy signature of the thing you are creating. When the new thing is born into your life it will have the same energy signature it had in the ceremony. This will help you recognize it.
