True Security

Jul 16, 2022

Video Summary:

I want to talk about the feeling of security, the internal security of feeling safe and secure. I'll start with the premise that we were conditioned to find security and even safety outside of us.

The way we were raised in our families as little kids, we were very much reliant upon our parents. And so security and safety were outside of us in a very real sense. And as life went on we found things outside of us such as a job, a place to live, things, friends, and relationships that seem to provide this security.

But recently, the world has really been changing, and it kind of came to a head during COVID when our idea of certainty got challenged. A lot of the things that we relied upon and were certain would always be there for us started falling away and crumbling. We were left feeling insecure as a people.

True security comes from inside of ourselves. It comes from trusting ourselves, spirit, the universe, and the earth to support and provide for us. Trusting yourself requires trusting your survivability which is trusting that no matter what comes along, you'll have the wherewithal to find a way to survive it.

We can learn to trust the earth and trust spirit. As an exercise, you can envision yourself as a tree with roots that go deep into the earth. Visualize a tap root that goes down to the center of the earth and anchors you. See the leaves of the tree reach up to absorb the sunshine to nourish you.

We have energy centers on the bottoms of our feet and at our root chakra at the base of our spine. The root chakra is where grounding really happens. So when I'm sitting here, meditating, or at my work desk, I can envision myself energetically connecting with the earth. I can feel the earth's energy in my feet coming up my spine. I can feel that tap root going down to anchor me to the earth.

And all these things are rooted inside of me. They're not dependent on things outside of me. You can count on the earth and spirit to always be there. And so these are things that have certainty. They can be relied upon- not like the water that trickles through our fingers as we try to hold onto things outside of us.
