What determines if your heart is open?

Jul 31, 2022

Video Summary:

What determines if your heart is open or closed at any given moment? When you get mad at someone, do you close your heart to them? When you're attracted to someone, do you open your heart to them? When something triggers you, do you close your heart and shut down?

So is it my true nature and my intention to walk with my heart open that's determining whether my heart is open, or is it more randomly determined by things outside of us? People piss us off, we get triggered, or we like this and don't like that.

My truth is that we can keep our hearts open when we're mad at someone or triggered by something. It's a lot easier to be open when we’re in a meditation or out in nature, but when it really counts is when we get in a stressful or challenging situation.

I would argue that that's when we need our hearts to be open the most. Because when our hearts are open, we're in touch with our resources- our intuition, instincts, compassion, understanding, and clarity. When our hearts are closed, it's very difficult if not impossible to access those things.

When you're walking through a dangerous neighborhood in the city, do you want to be shut down or open and in touch with your intuition and your instincts? Then you can sense, “I don't think I should go down that street.”

If it is possible to keep my heart open when we're stressed, then we could stay open when we're in an argument with a friend, significant other, or family member. If we stay in it, we can say, “When you said that it triggered me and hurt my feelings. And here's the thing, I want to stay open and connected to you.”

What do you think?
