Work and Community
Mar 20, 2022Video Summary:
When people don't work or contribute, they no longer feel like they're part of their community. When we were back in clans of a hundred people, everybody had their part. Everybody did something; hunted, gathered berries, made lodges, or worked with the children.
When you worked, that was how you were a part of the community. That's how you became one of the people. It was an exchange of energy, a division of labor.
These days when people are not wanting to work, it kind of breaks down this exchange, this give and take, this we're in it together. The new ethic seems to be that work sucks and therefore do as little of it as possible. The successful person doesn't have to work. But by not participating, they're excluding themselves from being a part of the community.
It's not only the type of work that we do, but it's the way that we work. If I bring my spirit and energy to work, I feel like I’m part of my community. Energetically, I'm part of it, because I've taken and I've given. I'm one of the people now. I belong, and I'm part of my community.
